SCHMUTZER PRIMATE CENTER


The largest primate center in the world. When you visit Ragunan Zoo, do not miss to visit the Schmutzer Primate Center which is one of the world's largest primate center. Formerly the world's largest primate center in Leipzig, Germany. Now, Schmutzer Primate Center is the largest with an area exceeding 13 hectares.

Schmutzer Primate Center in Ragunan Zoo is where the conservation of primates in Ragunan, Jakarta. Although located in Ragunan Zoo, the management is not left to the Ragunan Zoo, but by private funds from the founding of The Gibbon Foundation.

For comparison, an orangutan who is in the management Schmutzer well maintained, some covered by a glass enclosure and has a temperature control. While orangutans who are in the management of Ragunan Zoo, the cage is not protected from the visitors throwing food, even the visitors throw a cigarette, and an orangutan in a cage has been studied and being a smoker.

Schmutzer Primate Center was established as a means of education and entertainment for visitors.

As well as the San Diego Zoo, primates living in the Schmutzer was designed as wildlife animals (without enclosure), for example, gorillas and orang-utan enclosure. Place for visitors are provided a minimum, such as trails, playground and learning or enter the cave, and the animals sought shelter maximum (in the area). Schmutzer Primate Center also has a museum, library and a small movie theater about primates in Indonesia and the world.


Because visitors are not allowed to bring food in, Schmutzer is very clean environment. Tight inspection of this, day care goods, safe and tidy. Visitors checked before entering, even candy would be confiscated. Drinking water is provided free in the garden with a fountain drink at every certain point in the zoo. In addition to the untreated animals, all plants in Schmutzer given the board a name based on its Latin name for the information of visitors.

Primate Center is still under development and some sections are still in development. In 2006 the primate center has been left entirely in jakarta Ragunan Zoo.

Mrs. Pauline Antoinette Schmutzer-Versteegh is pioneering the construction of Schmutzer Primate Center. She is an animal lover, painter and philanthropist. She bequeathed all his estate to The Gibbon Foundation, chaired by Willie Smits to be a new facility for primates in Ragunan Zoo.
