TRANSJAKARTA

Transjakarta or commonly called the Busway is a bus rapid transport systems or Bus Rapid Transit in Jakarta, Indonesia. The system is modeled on a successful TransMilenio system in Bogota, Colombia. Busway planning started in 1997 by consultants from the UK. At the time scheduled bus runs contrary to traffic flow (contra flow) so that the path of another vehicle is not appropriated, but aborted, with consideration of traffic safety. Although the Busway in Jakarta imitate other countries (Colombia, Japan, Australia), but Jakarta has the longest and most lines. So at the first people always look to Bogota, now Jakarta as an example to be learned and ways to overcome the problem.

The idea of Bus Rapid Transit project development in Jakarta appeared around 2001 to inspire similar projects in Bogota. This idea then became a challenge for the governor Sutiyoso who was elected governor of Jakarta for the second period (2002-2007). An institute called the Institute for Transportation & Development Policy (ITDP) becomes important that accompanies the project planning process. The initial concept of this system is made by PT. Cipta Pamintori, a transportation consultant who has often worked with Jakarta Transportation Agency. In addition to private parties, there are several others who also support the success of this project, among them the American aid agencies (U.S. AID) and the University of Indonesia's Center for Transportation Studies (CTS-UI).

Eleven TransJakarta corridor is the route used by the mass rapid transit system Transjakarta. On most routes, buses run on separate lanes adjacent to the regular vehicle lanes. The first corridor was opened in 2004 with ten others in subsequent years. Four other corridors are being planned.

Here is a list of Transjakarta corridor:

  1. Corridor 1 (Kota - Blok M)
  2. Corridor 2 (Pulogadung - Harmoni)
  3. Corridor 3 (Kalideres - Pasar Baru)
  4. Corridor 4 (Pulo Gadung - Dukuh Atas)
  5. Corridor 5 (Ancol - Kampung Melayu)
  6. Corridor 6 (Dukuh Atas - Ragunan)
  7. Corridor 7 (Kampung Melayu - Kampung Rambutan)
  8. Corridor 8 (Lebak Bulus - Harmoni)
  9. Corridor 9 (Pluit - Pinang Ranti)
  10. Corridor 10 (Tanjung Priok - Cililitan)
  11. Corridor 11 (Kampung Melayu - Municipal of East Jakarta)
  12. Corridor 12 (Pluit - Tanjung Priok)
  13. Corridor 13 (Blok M - Pondok Kelapa)
  14. Corridor 14 (Manggarai - UI)
  15. Corridor 15 (Ciledug - Blok M)

One more thing about Transjakarta, passenger tariffs set for Transjakarta, only Rp 3500 ($ 0.4), one way trip. You can go to where you're going, anywhere (as the pass line) in Jakarta at this rate. Could you believe that?

But surely you have to change buses at the central bus stop, for reaching your destination.
