SOEKARNO-HATTA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT


Jakarta International Airport (Soekarno-Hatta International Airport - SHIA)  is a major airport located on Java island, Indonesia. The airport is named after Indonesia's first president, Sukarno, and the first vice president, Mohammad Hatta. The airport is often called Cengkareng, and became its IATA code, CGK.

It is located about 20 km west of Jakarta, Tangerang City, Banten. Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has an area of ​​18 km ², has two runways that are separated by two parallel taxiway along the 2.400 m. There are two main terminal buildings: Terminal 1 for all domestic flights except for flights operated by Garuda Indonesia and Merpati Nusantara Airlines, and Terminal 2 serves all international flights also Garuda Indonesia and Merpati Nusantara Airlines domestic flight.

Each building is divided into 3 terminal concourse. Terminal 1A, 1B and 1C are used (mostly) for domestic flights by local airlines. Terminal 1A serves flights by Lion Air and Wings Air. Terminal 1B serves flights by  Kartika Airlines and Sriwijaya Air. While the terminal 1C serves flights by Airfast Indonesia, Batavia Air and Citilink.

Terminal 2D and 2E are used to serve all the international flights of foreign airlines. Terminal 2D for all foreign airlines which served by the PT Jasa Angkasa Semesta, one of the airport ground crew. Terminal 2E for international airlines served by Garuda Indonesia, including all international airlines served by Garuda Indonesia and Merpati Nusantara Airlines. Terminal 2F for domestic flights served by Garuda Indonesia and Merpati Nusantara Airlines.

Terminal 3 was completed on 15 April 2009. Terminal 3 is completed and will be used by low cost airlines. Currently there are two airlines that use Terminal 3, namely Indonesia Air Asia and Mandala Airlines. and planned to accommodate Airbus A380 aircraft models.

SHIA made first landing of the A380 aircraft (SQ-232) on May 4, 2012 although the status of the landing itself is a divert landing. Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has 150 check-in counters, 30 baggage and 42 gates. Each sub-terminal has 25 check-in counters, 5 baggage and 7 gates. The airport imposes a tax of Rp 150,000 ($ 16 USD) for every international passenger and Rp 40,000 for each domestic passenger.

Shuttle Bus
DAMRI buses available towards the center of the city, including the Gambir train station and other stations. Also available the bus for move terminal, from terminal 1, 2, 3 as well as the departure/arrival internationally. The route is served by bus routes from the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport :
  • Damri: Destination (Jakarta), Blok M, Bogor, Cikarang, Gambir, Kampung Rambutan, Lebak Bulus, Mango Dua, Pasar Senen, Rawamangun, Serang, Tanjung Priok.
  • Primajasa: Destination Bandung.
  • Cipaganti: Destination Bandung.
  • X-trans: Destination Serpong & Bintaro
Train
Planned starting in 2013, is available direct rail connection to Manggarai Station, South Jakarta.

Taxi
There are lots of taxis, from the Blue Bird Group (Blue Bird, Pusaka Biru, Pusaka Sentra, Pusaka Nuri, Morante, Silver Bird (VIP), etc), Express Group (Express, Express VIP), Transcab, Yellow Cab, Celebrity Groups, Mersindo, Golden Taxi, Putera, etc.

Surcharge cost between Rp. 9.000 to 11.000 for each taxi is out of the airport. It should be noted that many taxis do not operate the meter but direct bargaining with the driver, make sure that the taxi meter is on before starting to walk to avoid the things that are not desirable.
